New Swimmer. Do you have any advice? Please and Thankyou. [:?

Well I'm 14. I know how to swim and I've been a swimmer since about 3rd grade, but I've never tried swimming laps. I'm undergoing a full body change, getting in shape, and I want to learn how to swim faster and longer. Along with practice is there anything else that can help me succeed?New Swimmer. Do you have any advice? Please and Thankyou. [:?
yes definitely practice will help you a lot...you are going to have to work very hard..swimming is one of the hardest sports..it takes work to be a good swimmer..and it is probably going to be very different for you since you are not used to doing laps..many ppl think that you can know how to swim recreationally and then be on a swim team and win races..this is not true, swimming recreationally for fun is a whole different thing than swimming competitively..work on your strokes by doing drills (youll find out what these are) most importantly...learn to kick fast and maintain a steady pace with your kicking during a race...never stop kicking! work with pull buoys to help you strengthen your arms and work on your freestyle strokes! best of luck to you and your swimming! :DNew Swimmer. Practice.. but make sure you gradually get up to long distances. But on your first meet, try short distances (like 50 free) and also a long distance (like 100 or 200 free) to see if you are a sprinter or long distance swimmer. Usually beginners are better at long distance swimming. But on long distances start out at a medium pace, and then on the second to last lap do semi fast and on the last lap give it all you've got. A good exercise to do by yourself while your in a pool just swimming is to do ';pyramid'; it's when you do a 400, then 300, then 200, then 100 then 50. And you go faster each set. Start out reallyyyy easy too. Good luck, and have fun on swim team!
if youve never swam laps before... iits gonna be bard for you lol buut

eat well- if u eat junk then go swim later or the next day, u feel terrible and you dont do as well u could

if you dont have practice every day, run a mile or two, do sit ups, lift weights (like chill exersizing) so u dont get out of shape

make friends with ur team mates, they can help you out a LOT and encourage you to go to and do well at practice.

even if youre really tired, dont give up, think about how FiT ur getting and how good you'll feel knowing u accomplished it.

in your bag, its always a good idea to have a couple extra goggles, caps, shorts, sweats, razors, *extra suit, towel, food high in protein, water gatoraide,

good luck have fuun:)
The main thing i would suggest is just work on your breathing patterns... stick with breathing every three strokes. Also remember to keep kicking no matter what.. the kick is what will make you become a strong swimmer.

Have fun!
